There were some things I discovered for myself and I wanted to share. I know we know the basics of recycling I’m sure, but I wanted to share the fact that there are so many more things we can recycle that we may not be aware of. The more we look into the little everyday things we just toss into the trash, the more we little by little save all this waste from piling up all around us.

It’s amazing how just a few things you can do can make such a difference in the environment.

CDs, DVDs, and game disks can be refinished and made like new if you send them to AuralTech. You can call them at 888-454 -3223 or you can visit their website at www.auraltech.com.

Compact fluorescent bulbs can be recycled at Ikea stores – www.ikea.com.

You can recycle eyeglasses. Most of your local eye care chains will take them or you can ask around to those in need, before you just throw them away.

If you have any older appliances, you can take them to your local thrift store, or you can give them away. Again, before you just dump it, see if there is someone in need you can help.

Every little bit helps. You can even recycle wine corks. yemmhart.com will recycle them and turn them into floor and wall tiles. I mean, if your gonna have some fun wine time, why not? You can also recycle the glass wine bottles at your local Whole Foods – www.wholefoods.com.

You can recycle your old mattress. Call your local shelters or go to www.earth911.org. So many people have so little and if we just think before we trash it, it helps everyone. Just make sure your mattress is in good condition, don’t give awat something you wouldn’t lay your dog on. ;)

Tired of your old exercise video? Before you toss it, trade it. You can swap them at www.videofitness.com. I mean, how cool is that?

You can recycle tennis shoes at Nike’s Reuse-a-Shoe. They turn old, warn out shoes into playgrounds and athletic flooring – www.nikereuseashoe.com

Done with this old batteries? Rechargeables and single-use batteries can be recycled here: www.batteryrecycling.com.

Ok, I’m pretty sure most of us have a printer, right? And ink is really expensive. Why not make some cash and go here: Recycleplace.com pays $1 each for your ink/toner and cartridges.

Toothbrushes and razors need to be replaced often and you can’t donate your old ones, that’s just gross. But if you buy a recycled plastic toothbrush or razor from Recycline, the company will take it back to be recycled again. These toothbrushes and razors are made from used Stonyfield Farms’ yogurt cups. That’s pretty cool. Visit www.recycline.com.

I hope what I have read about and am now spreading to you will help you look at the things around your house a little bit differently. :)
