Clever Eco-centric Ads

Today’s post started out as a fun one for me. I started researching the idea yesterday, and spent a good portion of the day on it. Maybe it was the fact that last night’s House season finale had me almost in tears, or maybe I am just easily affected, I don’t know, but, by the time I finished finding what I wanted for this post, I felt mentally drained.

I found many ads that are not only saddening, but very disturbing. They’re the sort of things you wish you hadn’t seen, but are glad that you did, because they made you more aware. Does that make sense? They are definitely the ads that scream in your face to pay attention to what we are doing to our planet. Today I am going to post some of the ads that I found to be most clever. Part of me feels that I should post the upsetting ads, as well, because they are also clever in getting their message across (which, believe me, they do), but I will leave it up to you to view them if you want (many can be found here, most created by WWF and Greenpeace).

So as to not overwhelm your internet connections, I am putting up smaller versions here. To view the full size, click the image, and it will show up in a lightview. To close the large view, scroll to the bottom of the image and click “close.”

There are more ads in this campaign with different animals, but these two are my favorite. The others include a tiger, an eagle, toukan, and a zebra.

To put beach pollution into perspective, trash was collected from various beaches, packaged to look like seafood and displayed at local farmers’ markets. This ad is called “Condom strips.” Other ads in this campaign include Plastic surprise, Styrofoam bites, Condo loaf, Private beach mix, Aerosol valu-pack, and Butts-n-bits.
