November 5th’s Tip

Closet clean up: With the new year coming soon, now is the perfect time to start this tip.

Head into your closet. Turn all your hangers around. When you pull an article of clothing out to wear, turn the hanger back. At the end of one year (or sooner, if you prefer), pull out all the clothes that are still on reversed hangers – you haven’t worn them in a year! Donate these items to a local charity or thrift store.

My closet is a disaster. I still keep those clothes which I don’t wear anymore because either it is expensive or just memorable. I think I need to follow your advice and get those stashed clothes out of my closet. Actually, I also need the space because it’s getting really crowded, so I might as well do it. Great post.

I’ve got tons of clothes in my closet and I don’t know which to put away or donate to the less fortunate. Thanks this tip of yours, I now have the idea on how to do it. Why haven’t I thought of this before? You’re certainly a genius.

This is something I really need to do. My closet is full of all kinds of things I don’t wear and don’t even like. However, I’m sure if I give some of the clothing away to charity, someone will like them.

I’m already a major fan of buying everything I can at the thrift stores, so whenever the closet reaches that point where I can’t fit anything else into it, I perform a “go-through” and pull out the items I don’t wear as often, or shouldn’t have bought to begin with, and donate those on my next thrift store treasure hunt. Your suggestion will definitely help me gain more definition of those particular items. Thanks Stefanie!!

Thanks for the tip…I have heard of the “one year” rule before, but never found a great way to implement it like this. I also try to do some donating at each significant turn of the season – so giving away winter clothes in the spring, summer clothes in winter, etc. If you can be honest with yourself, that’s the best way to keep your wardrobe “efficient.” Thanks again!

That’s a really good tip! I never thought of that! Though I usually do a quarterly closet cleanup. I get sick and tired of seeing my old clothes that I just end up giving them away even if I’ve never worn them!

Great tip. I usually go through my closets, top and bottom and rediscover things I forgot I had and hopefully will use again. I am at that stage of not wanting to spend money needlessly.

I sort of love finding stuff – it is like discovering treasures. But I do find that if I cannot use something, I do bring it to thrift stores and hopefully it will be a treasure for someone else.

Great tip! I have a propensity to hoard; and I also have way too much stuff for my little closet. Donating a big chunk of my clothes would be a great idea, especially around the holidays
