Eco-Friendly Friday

July 2nd’s Tip

July 4th: Can you believe it’s almost the 4th of July already? For our readers in the United States, here are some tips for making your Independence Day a little bit more green.

  • Ditch the disposables, and stick with your daily use plates/cutlery/glasses and fabric napkins instead. If you must use disposable, opt for compostable, such as Verterra.
  • Help your local economy by purchasing your party food from a farmer’s market in your area. You can also help yourself this way by choosing organic, vegetarian options.
  • Get outside! Turn off your electronics and enjoy nature – go for a walk, hike, bike ride, or just enjoy the backyard with your friends and family.
  • If enjoying a fireworks display, consider walking or riding your bike to the site, or carpool if it’s too far to walk.
  • If you will be setting off your own fireworks or using sparklers, be sure to clean up any trash left on the ground.
  • Set up easily accessible recycle bins around your home/yard if you will be having people over. Don’t give your party-goers any excuse to throw away recyclable items! You can even set up a compost bin for leftover food items.
