No one seems to appreciate dirt more than farmers and children, but DIRT! The Movie is set out to change that.
I went on a hike with a good friend of mine on Tuesday. We’re both nature lovers and agreed that we love coming home after a day of being outside and realizing that we smell like dirt. How many people can say they love to smell like dirt? We can!
I’ve always had an appreciation for nature, but never saw dirt in the same way as I do now, after watching DIRT! The Movie. I popped the DVD into my computer, got comfortable, and opened up my daily use programs to go about my day – Tweetdeck, Firefox, Mail, TextEdit for note taking during the movie, and, of course, the DVD player. See, I figured I could get some work done while I was watching the movie – I wasn’t expecting to be overtaken by its content. I was wrong. Once the movie started, I couldn’t take my eyes off of it, all of my attention was dedicated and I was lost in its content.
Dirt feeds us and gives us shelter. Dirt holds and cleans our water. Dirt heals us and makes us beautiful. Dirt regulates the earth’s climate. Why do we humans ignore, abuse, and destroy our most precious living natural resource? Consider the results of such behavior: Mass starvation, drought, floods and global warming.
Narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis, DIRT! THE MOVIE tells the story of humans trying to re-connect to dirt—the living skin of the earth. Traveling from the vineyards of California to the plains of Kenya, DIRT! reveals how repairing our relationship with dirt can create new possibilities for all life on earth.
The movie talks with scientists, farmers, authors, and many others about their appreciation for dirt, what it does for us, and how we’ve lost touch with it in our modern society. If you didn’t appreciate dirt before this movie, I can all but guarantee you will after seeing it.
