Homemade Facial: It’s crazy how much some skin care products cost these days and the wacky ingredients they contain. Synthetic snake venom in UltraLuxe-9 Age Control Complex by Sonya Dakar it costs $185 per ounce. Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media, from the foreskin of male newborns(!) found in SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum, which is $260 per ounce. Ambergris ie. whale vomit, used as a fixative for perfumes in various cosmetics. That’s not to mention the cocktail of chemicals that frequent most products like formaldehyde, toluene and sodium lauryl sulphate, which are toxic. I’m not sure about you but I don’t want those on my face, or in my body as 60% topically applied products are absorbed. Scary!

No, we like to keep it natural. So here is a face mask recipe from rawmazing.com that contains only 3 (recognisable) ingredients. It can help banish dry skin and give you a lovely glow.

Cacao Avocado Face Mask

  • 1 avocado (nature’s moisturiser, rich in vitamins A, D and E)
  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder (contains powerful antioxidants)
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey (has anti-oxidant and anti-microbial properties as well as being very hydrating)

1. Blend all ingredients together.

2. Smooth on skin and leave for 1/2 hour. (For even better results apply after taking a bath or hot shower, when the pores are open).

This recipe makes enough for 4 facials, or one facial and a delicious dessert!! Skin care that you can eat means it doesn’t contain any nasties.
