Roll up, roll up, come see the world’s first plantscraper. Yes plantscraper, a vertical urban farm currently under development in Sweden (those northern europeans are always one step ahead in all things green). The brain force behind the project is a Swedish-American company called Plantagon. The idea of the massive urban greenhouse arose a result of the forecast that by 2050 80% of all people on the planet will be living in cities. Currently the majority of our food is grown in rural areas and transported to cities along with a high carbon footprint. So Platagon wants to cut out the middle step and grow food within cities in the most efficient way possible.
What do you think – a fantastic combination of forward thinking design and sustainability or a waste of expensive city land?
