Relax into Fall

Summer is winding down, work is picking back up, and the traffic is getting very heavy. With fall just around the corner and the holidays not far behind, it’s a good time to remember to relax and take care of yourself.
I recently visited Spa Reveil, a day spa in Austin, Texas. The owner is very sweet and understands stress as best as anyone. I got some great tips on how to relax on your own and why it is important.
First off you should always be aware of your thoughts and feelings. Stress will sneak into our lives without warning and, often times, without our realization. The more we are in tune with and aware of our thoughts and feelings, the more we are ready to recognize when those thoughts and feelings are a result of stress. Recognizing the need to de-stress is a crucial first step.
Now it’s time to freeze the moment. As soon as you recognize that stress is invading your thoughts and feelings, stop it in its track. Freeze all your thoughts and feelings and do not let them spiral you down.
Start to shift your focus. This can be as simple as diverting your attention to things around you and their mechanics, i.e. movements, interactions, or activities, and let yourself be absorbed in them. If you can get away to a more tranquil environment or do something that you enjoy, do so. The key is to shift your focus away from the source of your stress.
Acknowledge your thoughts and feelings. When you have calmed down and are in control, analyze what you went through so you understand what triggered the stress. Acknowledge the emotions that you experienced without letting them take charge of your thoughts.
Believe that all will be well and let go. When you understand what triggered your stress, view the same situation in a more positive light. Believe that it presented you with an opportunity to grow, be better and stronger. Be confident that because you have overcome the negative thoughts and feelings, you will be open to receiving ideas to solve the issue at hand. Let go, knowing that all is taken care of and will be well soon.
Breathe.
