Strange Green Products – Biodegradable Grass Cell Phone

Je-Hyun Kim's Natural Year Phone

Cell phones made with recycled bottles? Phooey. How about a cell phone made with grass that biodegrades in 2 years?

You heard me right. Je-Hyun Kim has designed a phone that’s not only green in concept, but green in color… naturally. The Natural Year Phone is meant to only last for it’s functional lifespan (about 2 years), before it falls apart and biodegrades. The screen and keys are recyclable.

The phone is not yet commercially available.

A novel idea, but I’m not so sure it is well thought out. While the 100 million+ cell phones that are thrown into the landfills each year is a problem, I’m not sure a grassy phone is the right solution. What about the internal circuitry needed for the phone? And will it really last for 2 years? I’m not convinced.

I’ve also been wondering since I first saw this phone… would it give me grass stains?
