The much anticipated release of The Last Heart Attack, a documentary focusing on the latest heart disease prevention science, will air tonight, Saturday 27, at 8:00 PM EST and PST on CNN. The documentary was originally scheduled to debut last week but was bumped due to breaking developments in Libya.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s documentary features Bill Clinton’s plan to reverse his heart disease with a plant-based diet. In From Omnivore to Vegan: The Dietary Education of Bill Clinton CNN details Dr. Dean Ornish’s not-so-tough dietary plan. Having “believe it or not, more energy,” the former President describes, “I like the vegetables, the fruits, the beans, the stuff I eat now.”
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Director of the Cleveland Clinic’s Cardiovascular Prevention and Reversal program is quoted as saying heart disease is a “completely preventable foodborne illness,” arguing that an optimal diet could eliminate heart disease and other major diseases including cancer and diabetes believed to be caused by Western dietary choices. This program and others like Forks Over Knives, Food Matters and Food Inc. are helping to bring this understanding into the mainstream, translating the best available new science into practical steps people can take in their day-to-day lives to improve the well-being of themselves and their families.
